Current projects
Liverpool Bay Coastal Observatory: providing regular monitoring and continuous in situ measurements of oceanographic parameters from sites in Liverpool Bay in collaboration with a wide range of users from academic, government and commercial groups. The Observatory also aims to integrate real-time measurements with coupled models into a coastal prediction system.
Horizontal Patchiness in Vertical Mixing (Oceans2025 NERC core science): Collaborating with colleagues at the Scottish Association for Marine Science and at Aberdeen University on assessing the physics and biological impacts of patchy mixing, driven by variations in seabed bathymetry and in surface meteorological forcing, including the consequences for marine bioresources.
Research interests
- Turbulence and mixing in stratified shelf seas
- Measurements of turbulence using microstructure profilers and acoustic techniques
- Integration of ocean observations and numerical models to better understand shelf sea dynamics
