LEACOAST2 (Liverpool - East Anglia Coastal Study Phase 2)

This EPSRC-funded project is monitoring the sand transport around the offshore breakwater system at Sea Palling on the Norfolk coast. POL has been sub-contracted to carry out fieldwork for the project. Two data collection campaigns have been carried out, from March toMay 2006 and October 2006 to January 2007, during which in-situ instruments to collect hydrodynamic and sediment data on 3 bottom-mounted tripods (similar to POL's STABLE but on a smaller scale) were deployed. An X-band radar has also been deployed, which is monitoring the waves and bathymetry continuously since March 2006 till the end of the project in 2009. The in-situ instruments include ABS, ADV, ADCP, LISST100 and ripple scanners and good data return has been achieved overall. The logistics of the experiment have been quite complex, involving ship and beach deployments (see below). POL scientists are now involved in data analysis from this unique dataset in collaboration with others from University of Plymouth and East Anglia.
